Shared from a Homeschooler:

Since many kids are or will be home from school,  today i’m sharing an awesome list of ideas from a parent who homeschools. Keep the children busy and their minds active so they don’t fall behind at school but be sure to mix it up with lots of board games, library books (and Kindle), tinkering/up-cycling with household junk, (look out for our up-cycled garden swing coming up at the end of this week!)

Here’s some more online resources to help with kids at home – my suggestion would be to focus on one link from each list and work through it with your children, allowing them to be a bit more autonomous in choosing what they want to study (For example ask them -Science or Maths?) will bring out a sense of ownership and they will want to do well. I used this web 2.0 app earlier and my son challenged me to a game – I had to beat his score – which meant that he had to then beat mine! https://www.timestables.com/speed-test/

Cooking with the kids – no mummy blog is complete without some kitchen FUN!

The last couple of days we’ve been busy in the kitchen as well as doing our normal schoolwork and household chores.. (pictures to come- in true mum style its after midnight and my phone is dead- no battery  πŸ€)

I love cooking and try to pass the love on to my kids right now most of them love cooking and I find it interesting how my eldest enjoys cooking mains, the next one enjoys making desserts and i’m sure my eldest son can chop a salad for England! Its amazing seeing how their personalities slot in so well together. So without further ado here’s a few of the desserts we’ve made in the last week please do try them and comment on how can you make them even better -for example we’ve tried Rice Krispies with melted marshmallows on top too  πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Rice krispie treats

I’m sure everyone’s made Rice Krispie treats many many times so here’s a reminder for some of you and a yummy recipe for those of you who haven’t yet come across this tasty treat…

  1. Melt the chocolate
  2. Coat the Rice Krispies
  3. Spoon into cake cases
  4. Refrigerate for at least 30mins
  5. Enjoy!
Nothing looks yummier than a bowl of melted chocolate

BAnoFFEE

We also made some yummy Banoffee – shout out to my friends Sadaf and Mishal who introduced me to this slice of heaven on Earth. Also a good way to use up overripe bananas without making banana bread (-you’re welcome!)

  1. Smash up digestive biscuits, mix with some melted butter
  2. Open a can of ready made Nestle caramel and warm it up slightly in the microwave
  3. cut up some bananas
  4. Place a layer of biscuits at the bottom, a layer of bananas and then a layer of caramel
  5. Refrigerate for at least 15-20 mins
  6. Add a layer of whipped cream just before you serve it – Enjoy!

Apple CRUMBLE

  1. Crumble together approx 3/4 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  2. Peel and chop 4 medium sized apples (granny smith or pink lady are really good for this)
  3. Melt some butter in a pan and add the apples
  4. Then place the apples at the bottom of a baking dish
  5. Cover with the Crumble mixture (from step one)
  6. Bake for 40mins on 180 Celsius
  7. Enjoy with a side of ice cream or custard whichever you prefer

🎭🧩πŸ₯ Get out their old toys πŸŽπŸ§©πŸ₯

I’m sure we all have toys the children have stopped playing with and maybe even just don’t have time to play with – get them out!!

We’ve had a lot of fun this afternoon with ‘TapTap Art’ the cork-board was broken so maybe that’s why it was relegated to the top shelf waiting for me to replace it. I know I can easily grab a new cork board and even normal pins work too, the S (5yrs) and H (3yrs) enjoyed making different pictures and the older kids got involved too! Reminding us of fun times when they were younger.

available in Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.ae

We also found a frisbee which literally gave us about an hour of fun, I was about to take pictures- for this blog, but I was living ‘in the moment’ as my sister always tells me to do… and I kept thinking I’ll do it in a minute. When all of a sudden Z (10yo) managed to throw it on the roof of the garage πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ so yeah -pics to come!

Anyway hope I’ve convinced you to get out their old toys and remind yourselves and the kids how fun they are! let me know how it goes in the comments- happy kiddos = happy mama 😊 πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS GO ONLINE!

I, like most of you, am worried about how I’m going to be able to entertain the kids during this time and ensure they don’t get into trouble while I’m at work (or busy with house chores-although to be fair I get them involved in house work as much as possible) (I bought a safe this morning to hide all their electronics in!)

I’ve listed a few of the websites that are offering free trials until May for homeschoolers and teachers alike. I know that some parents may feel overwhelmed with the number of websites out there; each website has its pros and cons and some are better than others so I’ve selected a few to focus on this week and will be adding to this list periodically. If you’d like a tutorial on how these websites work please follow my YouTube channel, I post videos each evening, look forward to seeing you there!

Corona Virus Pandemic

Everyone is talking about the current world problem – The dreaded Corona Virus, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the crazy shoppers who are taking all the toilet rolls off the supermarkets shelves like there’s no tomorrow!

There is some sense in buying some essential shopping items – in case you need to isolate yourselves for a few days if you experience the common symptoms such as cough, cold, flu accompanied with fever. Better to be safe than sorry… the one thing to take away from this post amongst the myriad of advice out there is…

Wash your hands frequently

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY
